The Brolean Expanse
The Expanse is the easternmost province in the Empire, and the most recent area officially to pledge the oath of fealty to the Supreme Regent. There are few cities throughout the Expanse, and the area is home to many tribal kahlnissá. The center of the province is covered by dense forests and shallow glacial lakes that remain cool throughout the year. The outer regions of the province have been settled by many humans and kahlnissá, as well as some viantu. Travelers throughout the province may also meet Pulnagá in various communities. The primary city in the province is named Lirrus, and it is situated along the banks of the Lirrean River.
The Brolean Expanse has a culture all its own, a rich architectural style, music and dance culture, and cuisine unlike anywhere else in the world. This is mainly due to the way in which civilized kahlnissá have adapted what they see in the clothes and construction of their human neighbors and made their own appropriations and approximations. The Expanse is also one of only two provinces in the Empire that have willingly volunteered to join. The kahlnissá have traditionally never conceptualized land as something that one “owns,” and as such deemed their fealty to the Empire as little more than a formality to facilitate trade. People in the Empire’s capital, Thrennum, discuss the Expanse in a romanticized way, as if it were a land filled with magical beings and endless forests. But most within the Expanse could care little about the daily happenings in the capital city. The Brolean Expanse is unified under the banner of the Dark Oak.
